It’s the very last part of MIT Programme.
After the workshop, tutors also produce a collective art-exhibition to present
participants’ creations and their photographic art and DIY videos.
The event gathers invited artists represented by their artistic works
In different languages of expressions such as: graphic design, fashion design, DJ, Poetry etc.
It lasts 5 hours, and it’s a change participants have to learn from artists
from their local market.
Our wish is to divulge independent artists and projects,
specially connected to social inclusion through art and culture.
On return to Recife, there will be another Happening Hours, to show people from Recife, the guests from the visited city – artists and creations.

How to use Creative Photography and DIY Videos in the classroom?

Well, there’s really a lot we teachers can do with a photograph or an image in the classroom. The point is not to waste time into discussing the importance of imagetic material in the classroom since nowadays it’s already common sense. Teachers have always used “flashcards” in the past, for introducing vocabulary, motivating language, games, presentations, explanations, warm-ups, lead-ins etc. What has changed is the plataform this image is being displayed nowadays, as time goes by, we use less and less prints in the classroom, which reduces costs, is environmentally friendlier then extracting trees for producing paper, no need for ink, and being digital enables teacher to add sound and text to it, producing the so called The Multimedia Imagetic Language.

Although we are certain that once teachers develop their creative thinking in photographing and video editing, they will come out with beautiful and fruitful audio-visual material, but nevertheless we also offer some orientation on how to design material and lesson plans using new technology and gadgets to potentialize teachers action power in the classroom, through a bit of art, creativity and dynamics.

How MIT Workshop works?

1 Our wish is to motivate teachers’ creativity, rather than teaching teachers to teach. It’s the person behind the role we work with, intelligent and sensible people. So, through a workshop based on theories of contemporary Philosophers, such as Edgar Morin, Leanordo Boff, etc… we bring thinking and reflecting into photography.

The idea is to suggest photography as language of communication between the individual and the world where they exist. Through a series of exchanging thoughts and socializing ideas on what communication is and the different types of languages and symbols we use in the process, tutors suggest participants to experiment and experience photographing in a freer but more reflexive way, aiming photography as means of communication – “an image is worth a thousand words”.

2 Once participants have experienced enough photographing according to tutors orientation, and some round tables of specific topics about photography such as: composition, light, movement, perspectives, plans and get-to-know your camera activities, we go straight to AdobePhotoshop.

3 At this point we get to Creative Photography and what we call “photosimulacros”, and how to get to feel new stimulus, motivating new concepts and ideas – (sur)realism. After first experimentes we start teaching photo editing and photo designing for imagetic digital material for ELT. We teach basic tools in AdobePhotoshop software and demonstrate some ideas on how to use such tool for photo-based tasks and virtual realia for ELT.
4 Only after practicing and reassuring students are confident in using AdobePhotoshop, tutors then introduce WindowsMovieMaker, for video editing. During this period the group socializes ideas about: imagetic narratives, Musichronism, creative screen play, basic tips for editing, videoart (free expression of mind and feelings) and briefed videos – that’s when tutors lead participants to designed book-based DIY videos for scaffolding ELT in the digital age, where technology is vastly input into contemporary and urban societies – focusing on academic fields.
